Except Roberts realistically knows all of this (Was Roberts present for Alito's insanity here or is it two separate recordings?) and yet continues to shield both Alito and Thomas. If he really has the courage of his convictions, he'd be talking to the Senate literally now.

You're making incorrect assumptions. The Chief Justice has no power over the other justices. He is not their boss and he neither polices nor shields them. And it is the House, not the Senate, that initiates articles of impeachment, which we all know the current House will never do.
