The way 2016 actually turned out, wrt "democracy" is that Hillary Clinton dominated high-turnout primaries but came close to losing the nomination to Bernie anyway because Bernie kicked her ass in caucus states with miniscule turnouts

"the primaries have vastly lower turnout" yes, this is my point, what about "primaries are low turnout" is inherently undemocratic? if people don't care to show up and vote, their votes don't count. that is....how this all works.

Yeah, it worked out that many more people wanted Clinton to be the nominee than wanted Sanders to be, and they voted and she won and was the nominee. "Anti-Democratic" doesn't mean not getting what you want

The whole point of the primary is to test your turnout organization, because you can't count votes you don't have.
