Even the briefest perusing of classics should teach that survivorship bias is the fundamental blind spot that you need to be aware of.

Right, like in the Lebron comparison he’s *both* durable enough to play in the NBA for 21 years *and* he’s an elite scorer with a 25.7 ppg average in year 21. Might be like Brady going to the AFC title 10 years straight.

I have only the vaguest sense of how the pelton’s work and how teams game stages; so I guess my question is what’s the median stage win chance for the top guys? 35 stage wins sounds like both being consistently elite and consistently grinding tours.

Art Sulzberger has committed the greatest sin in journalism- more people are talking about the publisher of the paper than what is in it. As the Indian newspaper legend Ramnath Goenka said "When the paper is in the news, it is bad. When the paper is the news, it is over."

This is my biggest issue with ‘The Discourse’ atm; pundits are intentionally doing second- and third-order metacommentary, the most tedious of all commentary.

You have to remember that a presidential election is about a coalition of people, not just a person, but that person is obviously key in the sense that they bind together that coalition as a leader. It’s important not to get feckless for the sake of pandering specific factions without some asset.

Right, swinging margins in marginal states is how you win the presidency, but low-info voters are a little different from independent or undecided voters.

Roberts, Alito and Thomas all cut their teeth in a Reagan administration eager to expand the outer limits of executive power. Kavanaugh did the same under George W. Bush who tried to make the unitary executive a reality.

undecided, low-information voters are more likely to simply not vote, specifically because it's a rematch. Resigning is probably the worst move possible since it demobilizes your base and projects weakness to undecideds.

I wrote this earlier, but it may be broadly applicable today. Accepting things you can't control doesn't mean giving in to hopelessness. Quite the opposite- it's a guide for how sleep at night after facing ugly truths. I sleep knowing I did what I could, and the rest is out of my hands.

People like Fallon start from the premise, "Can I imagine some explanation in which this thing, standing alone, can be fitted into a principled legal system?" I mean, yeah, sure, that can be done for anything. But doing so makes you a collaborator and a propagandist, not an honest & wise scholar.
