Wireless phones that can connect to multiple devices are fab EXCEPT when youāre in the middle of a work call & your toddler in the other room starts playing on the iPad so you have to spend the rest of the call listening to the shortest loop of annoying cheery music until you can change the settings

Youāre 100% right that so many things can be abused. Thatās why defence in depth is important. Make each system as secure as it reasonably can, even systems that simply slow down or inconvenience bad actors can help they all add up. (Sorry, Iām in Infosec I get passionate about this I see lots)

Going offline soon so will leave this thread after this one. My point was/is simple. While it may be an edge case any system that auto-posts location data, even if opt in, can be abused unless designed very carefully. As a new system designing afresh BSky should take the time & care to do so.

When designing new systems design them right. Not everyone with access to peopleās phones are tech wizards, sometimes they just pick up unlocked phones that were left for a few mins. Iām not saying this is the top a list threat but that doesnāt mean you shouldnāt do it right from word go.

Not every abuse story is the same and donāt always start as abuse. Most are awfully complex. Suffice to say anyone designing a system anew (like Bluesky is) in 2024 shouldnāt be allowing for any system that would allow you to be sharing any sensitive data without realising it clearly each time.

When it comes to extra personal information gathering/usage please weigh up the potential utility against āis this still worth doing given stalkers/abusers will turn it on for people without them knowing/realising because normal people donāt regularly check their settingsā. The answer is usually no.
