Because everyday power customers, tax payers, the whole bloody planet is paying for it, mate.
With literally *no* exchange value to gain, whatsoever.

Yes, both past *and present* is.
In France, a major nuke proponent, 2/3 of reactors are on special permit, *cause they are too old to get a normal one*, and they have to wind down in the summer recently since there's not enough f*cking cooling water in the river!
They buy wind energy frm GER instead

All fine, but almost half of them are on their death bed, or beyond (meaning; running on bribes and special authorizations as their main fuel)
Nuke energy is the neanderthal of energy tech, but think of a neanderthal who recently drunk a gallon of mercury while paddeling a dugout

LOL
Nuke industry keeps promising this since *60* years, with most nuke waste still ending up in moist leaky abandoned mines, or Sibirian beaches, and to this date,
Taxpayers of all countries continue to pay for it

The *actual* "Tragedy of the Commons":
– first, they took our land away (some 500 years ago), 'cause nobody ever thought tgo fence it in
– then, they put a price on the air we breathe, to profit frm polluting it further
– next, they take our silence since we missed to slap a price tag on it

I'm sure, you're aware that the number of nuke plants under contruction right now (some of them for decades), *globally* is about 35.
Also, that planning, licensure, building costs of n plants have tripled if not quadrupled in the last 2 decades.
Not even talking abt absurdly increasing constr time.

I admit to be a bad person since my first thought reading this was, "Aaww but what abt all these $M bunker hideouts in NZ built by blockchain, AI tech bro billionaires in recent yrs as a global crisis last resort, now?"

I'm not entirely sure you got the killer right, but then I live on a different continent, so who am I to say
(My country, as overall stupid & bad it may be, is still blessed w/ subsidized theatres prone to show subsidized movies, but it's a freaking Afghan war to get a license in the first place 🙄)

Texas is subsidizing $10 billion worth of new fossil fuel plants, citing new demand caused by climate change and population growth.
But in reality, much of the new demand is coming from supercomputers for AI and crypto.
Guess where the new plants will be placed:
