I haven't tried their browser. I use Firefox and set DuckDuckGo as the default search engine in the Firefox settings.

Sadly, DuckDuckGo uses AI, too, but you can turn it off in the settings. Settings -> AI Features -> Manage

Darcy and Elizabeth are both very frank - whatever they would have said in this highly charged moment would have been problematic. Not that JA had any trouble writing those things for private consumption, as we see in her Juvenalia, which is full of all sorts of shocking things. :)

Yes! There's been debate about why Austen usually avoids dialogue in her proposal scenes. My theory: she couldn't report it accurately without using language inappropriate to a single lady, so she skipped it entirely. She had no problem with dialogue for Mr. Collins' dispassionate proposal.

My suspicion is that Jane imagined she was touching or taking Darcy's hand. How hard it must have been to write these scenes when she couldn't describe them!

The other question is what Elizabeth did when she "immediately, though not very fluently, gave him to understand that her sentiments had undergone so material a change..." Given that Elizabeth is always verbally fluent, & the clue of 'gave him to understand,' there's a suggestion of a gesture here.

When it first occurred to me that this could be a kiss, I posted about my discovery with great excitement, only to be told in a most dampening way by an Austen academic that this was generally known. 😂
