Geeky about books, film, musicals, choir, and drag! Delighted by: Judy Garland, Emma Thompson, Stephen Sondheim, David Tennant, Terry Pratchett. BE KIND, or at least don't be a dick. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️-adjacent, she/her

To the dvd store employee who shelved “Hachi: A Dog’s Tale” in the children’s section: Who hurt you?

Tough call because we really only got to know 14 for three episodes, and of course he was similar in many ways. He didn’t have the burning anger though, but I did sort of like that 10 could go from adorable delight to brooding and furious. It was a great (but believable) range.

Oh yes that one's on my TBR list (along with a good 800 other books, but it is on my radar to read soon).

I want to have a look, but honestly I can't be bothered to create an account and whatever that all entails. Usually I do quite badly on these lists, though. 😂 I rarely enjoy award-winning books.

She has to run out eventually! She's written so many books in the last few years! I've only read two (and one of the novellas, which I didn't enjoy).

And if you haven't seen Paddington 2, DO IT. It's the most unexpectedly delightful film of it's year - of many years, actually!

Hmm, I can see that now you mention it, but it isn't quite that. It's more like Paddington 2 with more songs and magic. Same sense of humour (same director).

Oh I didn't know that! Although Rey doesn't strike me as being that tiny next to Giant Man, but I haven't watched all those movies (just Force Awakens). But yeah, it gets tedious when she keeps doing it!

I was about to ignore it as "another pointless prequel we didn't need", and I'm so glad I didn't! It's charming AF and I smiled the whole way through!

The one that really annoys me is when someone throws something out of a window or over a fence, and you hear a crash and the sound of a cat yowl. Not everything that gets thrown hits a damn cat! That truly is the Wilhelm Yowl.

I did actually enjoy both of those books, but dear god does the author need to stop making her male love interests great big hulking giants and the women tiny but fierce, and then talking about it NON-STOP.

We had a guy force his way into our bookstore 15 minutes before we opened, and when the manager went to stop him he swung his cane at him. I was livid and literally had my hand on the phone to call security but the manager said to just let him be because he was old.

Meanwhile Black and Asian voters also voted for the racist party, which boggles the mind. I mean their whole stance is “make Britain white again”. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

I was a bit too, but I loved YA and middle grade (still do, to be fair), and I just found it very compelling. When I look at quotes from it now, I do NOT remember the writing being that bad; was I just very forgiving and not discerning back then? In those days I never ever DNFed a book.

Yeah I remember being very excited for book 2 to come out. A bit like Twilight, where I loved the first book at the time and the rest never lived up to it, to the point where I never finished the series.

I remember enjoying the first one in this series, but not the second or third, so I never continued. I think I was only in my early twenties when I read it, so I probably wouldn’t have noticed if the teenagers were realistic or not, being a bit too close to the age. 😂

My question is, is this actually happening in real life, or is it just some tiktok trend that everyone’s talking about as though it’s actually happened to lots of millennials?

Oooh let's check each other's out and report back! I adore Nevermoor (the first book being Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow). I think the world-building is exceptional. Children's fantasy is the best fantasy, IMO!

In a nice coincidence, the books I borrowed from the library two days ago were Lapinski’s “step Father Christmas” and one of Jessica Townsend’s Nevermoor books because they’re fantastic; book 4 is due out soon and I wanted to pre-support it 🤣

Excellent choices! I do actually read LD Lapinski, since I love middle grade books and theirs are great, but I’d be taking them out the library either way. Louie’s are a bit young for me, but I’ve borrowed her books for exactly that reason too. ❤️👍🏻

Writing books is HARD, and you all should get paid enough to live on! It pisses me off that you don’t remotely. So I shall help in anyway I can, even if it gets you a whole 30p or something 🤣. I’ll see if my library has your books! They’re very good about transfers with other local libraries.

And even if you don't actually want to read a library book, just take some out and then return them next time. It helps libraries and the authors of those books!

I don't want to see former Tory MPs on Strictly, in the Jungle, playing Traitors, hosting panel shows, or making travelogues or documentaries. I never want to see their smug, shiny faces again. I want them all to fuck permanently off.

My local Tory Villain only lost by 5%. That's waaaaay closer than I wanted (or expected). So glad I voted tactically and not idealistically. 😥

One thing I’ve learned from this election watch is that I literally have zero idea where most constituencies are. I mean, I didn’t grow up in the UK, but still. So clueless. 🙈

My map on the FT shows Great Yarmouth as having been won by Reform too. So that’s four seats if correct. 😭

Yep! It seems pretty obvious what they need to do to keep power; it’ll be interesting to see if they do it!
