Hey y'all, saw this on Insta and thought I should pass it along, just in case ppl are using JUST Google Docs and might want to back things up or pull things down from their Drive.
Oh crap! I compose my stories on google docs to have access on multiple machines and share drafts with clients. I do back up finished works, but I've got plenty of WIP in my drive
I don't see any screenshots regarding the person claiming they lost access to those documents because of their content, or that they actually lost access to their documents.
That's so utterly stupid (on Google's part). I feel like that's just generally a terrible business decision.
And now I'll go make sure I have everything backed up in my Other Cloud.
What the hell? Google Docs isn't my daily drivers, but I didn't use it a lot in communication with my editor. It's a pretty good way to share notes, suggest improvements, etc.
Now I wonder if this also applies to GSuite (the paid version).
I explicitly keep copies of all my work, be it commission or personal or professional, in at least 4 computers as well as on 3 different external drives and on an online server. That way even if it goes away on like 6 places I still have 2 more.
Wow, is it just me or does it seem like writers who write explicit content are being run off of more and more platforms and programs? Seems like a new warning every day
Yet another reason why I never write on cloud services... 🙃
But if this is truly the trajectory they're taking, how the heck are editors & proofreaders supposed to do their jobs??
Um...holy fuck.
I only share explicit works with a few people on Google Docs. It's often turned into another file format before posting or being shared.
I don't really understand the screenshots. Did she lose it without even sharing?!
ugh. if the files are shared with ppl with links and others can't randomly stumble across it, what does it matter?
dreamwidth still allows erotica and has post privacy settings with comments if folks want at least one way to get erotica beta'd
Are there any other writing tools people recommend? I've been looking for an excuse to move away from google anyways
At one point I found the Campfire Writing tools while looking for places to organize all my RPG writing, and their prices look very reasonable, but it also looks too good to be true
