I don't know for certain because I wasn't there at the time but there is sense that the big difference between then and now is the large majority of people in the US were on the right side. It is not like that today and that is what scares me.

Trump supporters are not and never have been a majority. They're loud, and republicans currently have a structural advantage, but there aren't more of them.

We've always been a very divided nation. The last time I can remember ANY sense of unity was immediately after 9/11 & that didn't last very long. Another pretty salient point here is there are *many* more people in the US than there were in the 30s & 40s & less diversity-most were white Christians

There were a surprisingly large number of Nazi sympathizers in the US before WW2. I would say the number of people on the right side is probably about the same now as it was then.
