Harm reduction is good.
The problems arise because of the effective decriminalization of public use and public intoxication, not because of the decriminalization of the intoxicants. The rights of the rest of us are thereby infringed.
Alcohol remains more of a killer than opioids.

Ordinary people: climate change is worrisome. Someone is addressing it, right?
Right-wingers: yes! We're claiming it's a hoax! And, wind power kills birds!
Left-wingers: yes! We're claiming we need more tax revenues! And, the end is nigh!
Insurance CEOs: yes! We're leaving vulnerable regions!

Again, a little honesty pls ...
It is more than a handful of parasites, which you would know if you had not grown up privileged. Despite this, as I said, I favor a modest UBI (and a bigger EITC).
Also, Amazon improves my life even if Bezos pays no taxes. And of course he's paid billions.

Most people really want to work. But quite a few do not. If you did not grow up knowing the others, then you grew up privileged.
The UBI is still a good idea, but honesty requires admitting that there will be parasites.

1. From the post: "To be sure, in this simple model the combination of the EITC and minimum wage is not perfect ... some job seekers are unable to work". Exactly that.
2. There is no evidence of strong labor supply effects of an EITC or of downward pressure on wages.

The EITC is much better for workers as a whole than minimum wage legislation. Until you study economics, you cannot really hope to understand why. Time to buckle down!

Lame again. You seem so desperate to make your ideology without unaccountable to even the most basic facts.
Look, just go learn some economics before trying to talk about the economy. It's that simple.

That's not a fact. Tax deductions merely lower the cost of giving.
Minimum wages throw people out of work; the EITC is superior. Natural law philosophy is not "dog eat dog" and science denialism is not "conservative". Pollution is not unique to capitalism.

Do facts matter? Look up "Charitable Giving by Income Group". The largest *percentage* of income is given by the people who earn millions per year.
Exhibiting your envy does not constitute ethical reasoning. I have found no ethical reason to complain that some people earn many times what I do.

Trump believes in fealty, not independence. So, yes.
Yet he is likely to win because many Americans find his open narcissism, constant lies, and utterly transactional politics rather entertaining. Welcome to the 21st century.

In the US the pronatalists are mostly the religious right, not "capitalists". Granted the religious right has a strong authoritarian streak that leans toward monarchism, which is why they are so attracted to the immoral criminal Donald Trump.

And yet Kearney is basically right, and your proposed policy "solutions" have no political feasibility in the US -- a country that is about to elect an aspiring dictator as president/king because the rich will gladly trade democracy for another budget-busting tax cut that future workers pay for.
