That argument doesn't convince me because I'm not willing to reject a qualified candidate because of her gender or race. I can't help what Trumpers like or don't like. Plenty of voters don't vote because of a lack of excitement/cynicism about democracy. I want to avoid that.

I'm not suggesting an open convention. Rather a Binden-led handing of the torch. I think it is likely there will be protesters and dissent if Biden remains the nominee anyway.

I can see the convention honoring President Biden's contributions, announcing a new VP and charting a positive course forward. Otherwise won't we all be just watching to see if he has more senior moments (or not watching out of dread)?

We don't have to look that far back to see an analogy to today. The Democrats' strategy of ignoring progress and hoping the voters would ignore dissatisfaction with their candidate and just look at Trump's flaws was a losing one in 2016.
