The left is struggling for a different world. The right wants to preserve and expand the status quo. It's much easier to have goals that entrench what is than to create ones for a world that is yet to exist. I think that has something to do with it.

Well, we got actual Nazis doing hate crimes against synagogues and we got politicians saying that is pro-Palestinian activists doing it when Palestine solidarity actions have been very visibly led by Jews in many many places here in the US so pretty cool pretty cool

After a *very* long period of writing, rewriting, and revising, I finally submitted the final manuscript for my book _White Property, Black Trespass: The Religion of Mass Criminalization_ (NYU Press). I'm relieved & excited. Copyediting next. The real thing out sometime next year.

It does a lot of other stuff I think is cool & that I hope will be useful not just for academics but for organizers trying to make a world beyond cops & cages. I basically argue that understanding criminalization as a religion can help us organize/strategize more effectively.

It also explores the continuities of the color line, the property line, & the thin blue line as functionally sacred partitions, considers the mythological & religious function of cops & cages, takes harm & safety seriously, and ends by meditating on the 'religion of abolition'.

In short the book traces the eurochristian settler colonial racial capitalist history & present of police & prisons, re-narrating criminalization as a religious project that “saves” the sacred order of whiteness & property by exiling those who trespass against it to carceral hell.

I hope a range of people will get the chance to engage it and hopefully find it helpful, clarifying, or catalyzing. I've been living and thinking toward it for a full decade. So needless to say, I am thankful to finally be moving forward with it (and on to the next things).
