Immunity from standard prosecution by a regular prosecutor. Not from impeachment by the house & conviction by the senate. The problem I see is founders did not contemplate political parties. The refusal of the Democrats in the senate to have the trial for Mayorkas is a poster child for that.

The refusal is b/cMayorkas was actually doing his job. He had just gotten out of 3 months of bipartisan negotiations crafting a border bill that the MAGA Congress rejected at the behest of Trump. McConnell admitted it. You can't impeach someone for not doing their job when they are doing their job.
