Our 1ยฐC coldroom is home to probably the largest collection of live Southern Ocean zooplankton outside Antarctica.
Copepods (like ๐๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฐ๐ช๐ฅ๐ฆ๐ด ๐ข๐ค๐ถ๐ต๐ถ๐ด) are the most diverse zooplankton group in the SO, with more than 300 species.

In 1898, the RV Belgica was trapped for more than a year in two-metre-thick sea ice in the frozen Bellingshausen Sea.
In that same area during the 2022 and 2023 summers, there was almost no sea ice at all.
