Outside of consumption, is air conditioning itself harmful for CO2 levels? If not, we need more solar, which is most efficient when people need ac.

What do you mean "outside of consumption"? How can you talk about "outside energy consumption" when talking about CO2 impacts.

AC itself does not produce CO2, though the refrigerant chemicals used by air conditioners to do their magic are themselves greenhouse gases. Unless you’re taking a pickaxe to your air conditioner, those stay inside the machine. So the CO2 impact comes entirely from manufacturing and energy usage.
