People imagine picking up and finding *something better* is an easy solution. But how is that supposed to work, when all your time and energy goes to staying alive? You have almost nothing to set aside to actually fight your way out.
MEASUREDHEAD - βTHE PAST IS MADE OF STATIC IMAGES, DISTORTED MEMORIES, DEMENTED NOSTALGIA. THIS, THE PRESENT -- WITH ALL ITS POSSIBILITIES, INNUMERABLE HITS AND MISSES -- IS FAR SUPERIOR. IT IS A *LIVING* ORGANISM.β
I don't get why people can't think that sometimes the right thing (exposing abuse) happens for the wrong reason (shithead with an axe to grind)
It sucks that it was probably buried until he annoyed the wrong person but all the more reason to not let it get buried again
he's also right that that's not how huge defense spending works. What happens is the hammer cost $4, and the toilet cost $200 and it cost $49,796 for a 3 month contract on a guy who can keep his mouth shut forever when he installed the toilet next to the alien autopsy room.
independence day is such a cheap action flick that i love and the most memorable line for me is Jeff Goldblum's rabbi dad saying "You don't actually think they spend $20,000 on a hammer, $30,000 on a toilet seat, do you?"
Feeling shitty about the genie leaving the bottle about living in a dictatorship and feeling like there's nothing to do. I don't believe in any spiritual rewards for martyrdom, or that propaganda of the deed works. And also feel particularly incapable of networking a community that could do stuff
The artist puts themself in the art. They can't be separated. Their intentions and experiences inform the work. But what is separate is what you get out of the art. With a critical eye or dumb luck the audience can find a different meaning.
It sucks that the accusations against Gaiman were reported at all probably definitely to act on some shit head grudge. I don't doubt the validity of them. Just bemoaning how justice can only happen when a person annoys certain people.
Absolutely. That's honestly why I find them both so compelling.
Allegedly the Prussian war observer fell out of his chair laughing at the first battle of bullrun but vomited witnessing the carnage of the second battle
Also the union wasn't returning artillery fire (to save desperately low ammo) so they thought they knocked the cannons out with their own and didn't expect to be charging into grapeshot
The fields there are rolling hills. There was enough cover that they were able to close the distance and force the melee. There was certainly a lot of bumbling figuring out premodern warfare during the whole conflict but the maps paint an incomplete picture
Not the most terrifying thing but perhaps the most infuriating: every single thing we said about these fascist Republican fucks has been proved out and all the people who assured us that what is happening would never happen smoothly pivoted to yes it's happening but it will be fine.
this is from our server so im allowed to post it , but if anyone is curious what Gary had to say on the server the day our private conversations dropped on bluesky . . .
truly coward shit . He leaked PID to Kairi and Laurelei Bailey , turned around , and said this
