Another nesting Bird Lump (nighthawk)! This one is a stone's throw from the Polyergus oligergus nest I found a few weeks back, and I check on them both periodically. π€

Watching Copa AmΓ©rica, and Venezuela just scored a very embarrassing goal on them to tie it
Nothing of great importance this time, I'm just rooting for them, and that happened

Phidippus workmani lass, grooming after finishing off a very large grasshopper π This species is the first Phidippus I ever saw. They're endemic to Florida and Georgia and are always a treat to see in the savannah habitat they seem to love. Gold Lumps.

For your consideration: Longspood (Marpissa pikei)
She's long. I had not encountered this species before! They've probably seen me though, many times. Very sneaky. π€

Shy-Hulud was awake, so I gave them a sliver of mango, and that's the quickest (relatively speaking) I've ever seen them go for a snack. π

We've all seen this a thousand times whether we choose to remember or not. Hell, just on this site alone. In the past month. The past week.

The public accusations out about Neil Gaiman may or may not just be bullets fired from a TERF-gun, but the immediate responses of decidedly not TERF's saying "Good, it's finally out, it's been in whisper networks for years that this guy is a creep" tells me there's fire to this smoke.

Galaxy Spood π
Picked up a couple of these tiny brilliant Micaria spiders this afternoon, for science. They're undescribed as far as I know, and I'd like to help change that. π

The most mindblowing part to me is that there's apparently new and undescribed jumping spider species to be found in Florida. I figured Florida would have been well-picked over by now, particularly in regard to jumping spiders, and considering the North American expert resides here!

So it turns out that the weirdest animal in Lake Baikal is not the freshwater seal.
No, it's the GODDAMN CHIRONOMID MIDGES WHOSE LARVAE LIVE AT OVER 1300 METERS IN DEPTH WHILE THE ADULTS ARE WINGED INSECTS

I usually default to iNaturalist because I'm usually posting from my phone and bugguide.net isn't exactly mobile optimized. But I'll post things which seem relatively "important" to both.

I usually only get that quick of a response the rare times I post birds to iNaturalist.
Though Jeong Yoo was less than a minute on this one, without being tagged: www.inaturalist.org/observations...
He's been ridiculously quick on some of the tiny wasps I've posted
