Homo Economicus: a mutant caricature of the selfish, know-all 'rational' being Adam Smith used to model his economic theories. (I don't blame Smith for using his circle of peers for a first approximation. That they subsequently doubled down on the idea as an *aspiration*... well, narcissists.)

At this point, I feel that Project 2025 is a thousand pages of trolling. Vote against the people who want it.

It being winter here, we've been having the opposite problem: unusually cold weather for Melbourne (12C occasionally, yes, but not a week of it!) Dogs don't mind the cold as much, but our lad has appreciated a cushion to curl up in.

Denying knowledge of Project 2025 is Trump's senior moment. He is either: - lying about it - wasn't told about it - forgotten about it

I think it's a common mistake: to argue from facts (what Aristotle called 'logos') rather than feels ('ethos'). Facts are for persuading/motivating you to persuade someone else to feel the same way about something you do. They are a shield, rather than a spear. (although... shield rushes...)

Toilets of renown:* The wide one gracing the room where I stayed in California for three months had a long slow flush which consumed half a reservoir and... generally failed to achieve its objective. Californians wonder why they have water shortages? * in the 'hall of shame' sense

There was a nature show about snow leopards in the Hindu Kush. Photographer camped out for weeks among a group of (tasty?) marmots. All he had to show for it was a short video of him explaining how much he *hated* marmots. Oh yes, and a group of suspicious US rangers moving into Afghanistan...

The way I see it: Vote* for your least worst choice, because not voting is the exact opposite. * Voting in Australia is compulsory. At least one commentator has called this the biggest factor in preserving democracy here.

After the Covid lockdown in Australia, some interesting stats came out in response to Morrison's egregious 'gas led recovery'. The extraction industry is the sector with the least number of jobs in the economy. The most? Entertainment and Arts.

Parking lots, roofs, watercourses, sure!. But I thought we were talking sheep farms (which also impact desert environments. Other things grow well under panels too, which might appease Ursula ;-)
Anyway, this is the sort of article I was cribbing from.

Imperfect narratives are your friend, especially when those narrative use different media. (One reason why House of the Dragon works: Martin deliberately made the book an imperfect history, so nobody grumbles about that not happening in the book)

Blank page bad. Write something (anything!) on it that can be editted later. First editor is you, so don't be embarrassed about the gibberish. Yet. Reading stuff back to yourself, aloud (your voice!), is useful. If it sounds good, and makes sense, great. If you're turning blue, it needs full stops.
