On the other hand, once they are past initial screening, I do want to read good writing in the assessments!
Screening is just checking for minimum requirements.
Assessments is when I check if people can actually do the job. Save the good writing for that!

When I screen applications, I want them to repeat my job requirements back at me with their details.
I write: Must have at least 3 years of python experience.
I want to read: I have 5 years of python experience doing XYZ at ABC place.
I don't want to read: I solve quant problems with Python

Yeah, I have to gently push back when they say things like comparing school behavior to the workplace.
1) I'm not interested in preparing my 6yo for the workplace and
2) I and the staff I supervise have all of these accommodations and more! (Not every place will be like this I know)

I really, seriously don’t wanna be a jerk but academics need to stop talking about “academic freedom” and start talking about “administrative harassment” or “political bullying” or something
Use words other people understand and have sympathy for

One frustration is for big all school events like assemblies. They are stressful and the kid does better if they can do an alternate activity. But they can't always spare a staff member for just a few kids that need the space.
But why not just have an entire classroom for alternate activity

That's really helpful to know what it should look like.
I think we are lucky then, the staff have been framing it this way.
Next time, we can talk about how many times out of 5 etc.
So far, most support discussion is good but they always say limited by staffing.

I think we have good goals, but it's just the second time ever. A little frustrated that some needs from disabilities are treated like "preferences.
Also the general approach of getting the kids to "fit in" with the general population instead of providing accommodations to address individual needs

We had one of those this past week. Better support though, but still a stressful time to feel like I have to be on the alert to advocate. Still, I am need to follow up next time on a comment.

I don't know what it's like now, but 20 years ago, we got a lot of training to "write like an academic" in our uni English classes, but little learning in the wisdom to choose which type of writing to use in specific situations.
(disclaimer: I still make this mistake at work a lot, still learning!)

I am pretty sure this guideline is not meant for specialized situations like higher ed or specialist audiences. eg the standard writing level at my org is Grade 8 education but of course we would not write our technical manuals to this standard. www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/...

Not a usual thing for me, but I love my backup plan of time critical work between 10pm-midnight and then setting a scheduled email for 8:03am the next day. Not in academia now so I usually take the equivalent time off later (or already had to take time off which caused the time critical-ness!)
