Right, it's very hard to imagine exactly *what* he could do to change the narrative because the debate really did seem like a make-or-break moment.

He can call a press conference in the evening, and take unscripted, hostile questions for an hour, answering lucidly, and joking about how he will never take Dayquil again. A POTUS can be on TV and command eyeballs whenever he wants.
