That's the crazy thing about disability. If it's an invisible (or mostly invisible) disability, people think you're lying or dumb. If it's a visible disability where you require a device (for mobility, communication, etc), you're suddenly unfit to do anything but sit, rot and make yourself scarce.

Even as a person who wants kids, I know that not everyone WANTS to be a parent, nor is everyone FIT enough (physically, emotionally, mentally, etc) to be a parent. Better to have those who know they don't want them to opt out, than force them to have kids they never wanted and can't care for.

As a person who's always had asthma, air conditioning can mean life or death. So anyone who tries to shame people for using AC when they have valid health concerns that AC can help manage - I have to remember the difference between them and me is luck and time: and one day, they'll learn.

It feels scarier because it's become so normalized. We have a right to free speech and peaceful protest, but seeing protestors getting beaten down has become a regular occurrence with those inciting the violence (mainly cops and the occasional troll/counter protestor) - walking free, no consequences

Even without the overcorrection problem (which I haven't really seen), Mastodon is also an extremely quiet platform. Getting any traction or interaction there is extremely rare, and if I wanted to feel like talking into the void, I don't need the internet to do that.
