I'm not either! I've kind of weaned myself off social media, so I didn't think through those logistics! Thanks for the heads up!

Yeah. Seems like it would be a perfect time, but my schedule is so swamped right now I don't know that I can fit it in this year. If I do, I will keep you posted!

Libraries save lives.
Attacks on libraries endanger, particularly, kids and LGBTQI folks looking for information they need just to survive.

EXACTLY. Not to mention what they provide for unhoused and low income people who don't have the ability to access necessary resources like the Internet.

They're not coming until early June, but if you want some physical postcards, let me know and I'll mail you some!
Feel free to share and use the images in whatever way can! They're such an essential part of every community. If we don't support the things we love, capitalism will devour them.

There are high and low resolution files for 4"x6" postcard and 8.5"x11" flyer versions. I also ordered some postcards if folks need to send them to members of city council, school boards, or anyone they need to let know they support their libraries.

Libraries and librarians are under attack in so many place in so many ways and I wanted to do something, so I made this image in support of them. You can download it or print it up to let folks know you support your libraries!

I feel like we just need to learn to make art without attaching judgement to it. Make without thinking about 'good' or 'shitty' or whatever. Just allow ourselves to make. Glad my presentation helped resonate with what you were going through!!!

I got this potato expecting it to be more of an apple. It was not red or yellow or green and wasn’t sweet at all. Instead, it was brown and had rough skin and I was supposed to cook it. I’m not a fan of potatoes. DNF.

This is such an amazing resource for anyone wanting to get into comics and publishing. If I was still teaching, I'd make it mandatory reading.

In Murfreesboro, TN they are currently trying to make both "public homosexuality" illegal AND ban books with LGBTQ content for kids.
If you'd like to do a small thing today, you could drop their public library an email in support of titles like Flamer, and This Book Is Gay.

You mean what you’re advocating disabled people must do, Ryan? This is ableism in action. It doesn’t matter to Ryan and others like him if covid reaches him, bc he assumes he’ll be fine. Millions of us won’t. And never mind long covid which is permanently disabling millions.

In the dialogue around all of this something I've been struggling with is just painting Scholastic (and all publishing, really) as An Entity, but there are very real people inside of that entity making these decisions. And those people should be held accountable in addition to the company.

Folks, look, Scholastic is only a billion-dollar juggernaut that dominates the children’s book industry. What are they supposed to do about fascist book banning and censorship in the face of 11 racists sending angry emails? Whatever they want because they literally can? C’mon. Be reasonable.

I just think Scholastic's CEO, Peter Warwick, who makes more than $3m/yr should donate his annual bonus of $1.25m to the fight against censorship. Maybe even directly to libraries or schools directly impacted.
We're past the point where a milquetoast press release about company values means shit.

I set up the Scholastic Book Fair this morning and it’s 85% IP, 5% tchotchkes, 5% Dav Pilkey, 3% stand alone books, and 2% locking fuzzy journals. The diversity boxes I requested had books that had diverse characters and rather uncontroversial plots. Soft censorship’s alive and well at Scholastic.
