I'm a coauthor on this paper about autism and flow states, which I think could be a really useful contribution to how autism is understood. Led by Brett Heasman, with Gemma Williams, Divine Charura, Lorna G. Hamilton, Damian Milton and me.

NEW paper an experience sensitive approach
This approach can improve the poor experiences of autistic people accessing mental health care, something which is an urgent need given the disproportionately high incidence of mental health difficulties & suicidality.

Check out this Emergence Magazine btw Emmanuel Vaughan Lee and James Bridle on ecology, technology, ethics, intelligence.... Found myself constantly wanting to argue back. Which is the point, right?

journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/... Lovely, and important, new research from this very good team. About how caring, experience-sensitive approaches to autistic people brings real results, instead of normalisation, humiliation and poor outcomes. Please share.

pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38622794/ Important research about autistic people & the menopause and mid-life. We know very little about this, but the research is needed by hundreds of thousands of autistic people. Definitely one I'd recommend, with thanks to the team.

journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.... Lovely bit of research on autism, empathy, and whether autistic people are the ones with the empathy 'deficit' (Clue: Nope).
With thanks also Damian Milton and so many others who work tirelessly to get Double Empathy Theory properly understood.

On this page, we get personal, we get feisty, and we get punk rock about it. We celebrate neurodiversity, disability justice, pluralism, weird pride, queer pride, and chosen family while making it clear that:

We are not okay.

You are killing us.

We have essentially error focused expertise-professionals implementing deficit models. The ‘manufactured ignorance’ prevalent around deficit pathology models is doubling down on the harm to us neurodivergent people. It’s a form of intentional intergenerational trauma.

Autistics have more co-occurring health conditions, like sleep disorders, hypermobility, and gastrointestinal issues. These can cause severe discomfort and distress—so pls beware professionals who claim pain or exhaustion reactions are just "autistic behaviors."

Oh this is so real. I had to buy more space only a few weeks ago. This is something access to work is supporting me with. I was in a virtual storage mess - the process has started. I had files all over the place - getting organised - ongoing!
