“The concept of autism as a disorder that needs fixing is a product of non-Indigenous communities, [Grant Bruno notes] that in his first language, Cree, the word used to describe autism is ‘pîtoteyihtam’—he/she thinks differently.” By Anne Borden King:

Toileting can be the most terrifying experience imaginable for a child whose experience of the world is turned up to ‘max.’ […] No-one questions whether it’s hell—or whether we could design such spaces in ways less exhausting to use." @annmemmott.bsky.social:

pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38622794/ Important research about autistic people & the menopause and mid-life. We know very little about this, but the research is needed by hundreds of thousands of autistic people. Definitely one I'd recommend, with thanks to the team.

eucap.eu/2024/04/02/a... A nicely clear statement by EUCAP (European Council of Autistic People), about ABA - and the deep concerns. "The majority of the 620 survey respondents from Europe were strongly against the use of ABA and ABA-based methods with autistic people."

Fab work by Professor Kristen Bottema-Beutel & team. Summary: most research teams invented a random definition of autistic 'problem behaviour'. None of the studies looked at whether any side effects happened when they tried the strategy they were studying.
None!

Yes, and quite often mistaken for a deliberate 'flopping' action, by some teams, e.g. if they imagine a child is trying to avoid work. In reality, the child may be dizzy.

In (ahem) another place, a useful informal poll result. I'd seen a few research papers stating that autistic people weren't likely to value the outside natural world, as it was too variable for us. So I thought I'd ask the views of a couple of thousand people...

What does an autistic child's love looks like? One of many reasons to heed autistic wisdom is that "So many parents grieve, thinking there is no love," when the problem is they don't know how to recognize autistic love. By @annmemmott.bsky.social, at TPGA.

Likewise, nonautistic people found it easier to guess what nonautistic people were thinking or feeling.
And both groups found it harder to guess what the other group of people were thinking or feeling.
There's limitations, which people can read in the document.
