I made this Pride flag using only NASA images and our team thought it would be cool to share on social (I work on the NASA heliophysics communications team), but it's getting all sorts of hate on the bird app and Fbook. Thought y'all might be more appreciative of it here. βΊοΈπ³οΈβππ

Well, someone learned nothing from watching "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance"! (Damn, I wish that story about Lang were true.)

By the way, don't sleep on that Northern Gannet: it's the only (known) one in the entire Pacific Ocean and it's *also* on that checklist!

Spare a small thought for those of us who are dedicated San Francisco county listers, and have to see this kind of checklist on the regular. (For those who don't know, the islands cannot be visited by the public; there is no way to chase.)

Going by Wikipedia (sorry, it's easy) there have been 8 pandemics since 1850, or about one every 22 years.
Unless your life expectancy is on the short side, assume you'll see another pandemic.

Surfbird, a shorebird finely adapted to foraging on rocky coastlines in the surf zone, photographed today on the edge of San Francisco Bay. Love the tiny water droplets beaded up on its back.

Canada Warbler, looking right at you, deep into your soul.
Photo from Feb. 11, in San Francisco. It's rare year-round in California, but extremely rare anywhere in the US in winter - it shouldn't be north of Costa Rica. (There's just *2* birds in the US so far in 2024!)

I'm guessing that whoever wrote "It is widely known that judging historical figures by current moral standards is problematic, unfair to some degree, and rarely black-and-white" did not actually take that logic seriously enough to agree with the eponym committee results.
