it looks like under load the system will tear occasionally, but it's genuinely great. our monitor is my dead grandpa's old television and as far as things go it's pretty good. when things look nice :>

One time he drew a walk, which lets you go to first base for free and then tried to... just... walk to second base? Hoping nobody noticed? When he was sent back to first base he said "Man, I'm just playing baseball, trying to get something started."

his teammate Dámaso García brought Alfredo to the All-Star Game as a +1 just for fun (guys usually bring their wives or girlfriends). one of the All-Star shortstops got hurt, so manager Joe Altobelli "named Griffin to the team, partly because he’s a fine player, but mostly because he was here."

the Jays' old stadium was a piece of shit, but when asked, Alfredo said: “Everybody said it was a bad place to play baseball. But I was a happy man [...] It gave me my future. my theory: he played 18 years in the MLB in no small part because he was *really nice*. Bill Rigney said "His character? Top of the line." Jerry Horwarth said "The Jays couldn't have asked for a better player or role model." Athletics GM Sandy Alderson called him "the glue that held us together."

let me get the (boring) stuff out of the way: he was a bad hitter, 67 OPS+ (33% worse than the average guy), but was a middle infielder, one of the hardest defensive positions, and he was damn good at it. he would play almost every day. my nickname for him is "Mr Reliable Ball"

gonna tell you about Alfredo Griffin, who is kinda interesting baseball-wise but seemed to stay in the major leagues by virtue of being a fun, upbeat, helpful guy. dudes rock.
