I recommend Freeman's Challenge: The Murder That Shook America’s Original Prison for Profit by Robin Bernstein. I finished the book last night. It's very readable and adds to the growing literature about the origins of the U.S. prison. press.uchicago.edu/ucp/books/bo... - there's also an audiobook.

After over a year and a half, my landlord has replaced my barely functioning fridge with a non-functioning one. (That was yesterday.) Today he came back, tinkered with it, and left again. I'm trying not to live off canned food. Do y'all have any low cost meal suggestions I can make with no fridge?
