I watched Lulu Sun (flying ANZ flag) beat Zhu Lin in Wimbledon last night. In the next round she will play crowd favourite Raducanu, which is going to be even tougher. Good luck to her! She played well but there is clear room for improvement, she has a few double faults. She can def go further. 🎾

I'm not saying PoC should align with Tories in UK, I agree that it is ultimately self-loathing to be supporting them. But what did Labour in UK do to advance PoC interests, or just basic universal human rights? They're in the same boat as the Tories in e.g. Palestine. Have to choose between 2 evils.

But wouldn't you say they got their PR strategy exactly right? Aren't you a little happy that Sunak et al arrived at position of power? I am. It tells PoC that if you align your view extremely enough to the right, you can rise to the top! As opposed to e.g. Diane Abbott you're hung out to dry.

Kia ora Paula, looking forward to watching it in full. Is it possible to have full English transcript for the documentary? I also notice that you can toggle on simplified Chinese subtitles, which is fantastic, but the option is buried. Perhaps Stuff can advertise the option a bit more? Cheers.

How that relates to this part of the world is... Taiwan. If Ukraine is allowed to die, it will give PRC the signal that no one will protect Taiwan, and there is no limit to PRC ambition in the Pacific if they can take Taiwan. /1

I'm not saying everybody should join or study at Columbia. Esp in US with donors so influential in university finance, the rot happens everywhere (e.g. "XYZ donor" chair in law). I'm saying if people choose to join or study at Columbia, I would keep an open mind on their reasoning.

B/c once you got "Columbia" on your CV it would (still) open doors? It's like when those horrible things at Russell McVeagh came to light, I talked to a woman who said she'd still work for them, b/c she said those things happen everywhere. She's not wrong. When you're hungry, you can't be choosy.

The generous interpretation is, Nicola Willis says shit like that EXACTLY because she is naive pākehā and have nfi what she is saying simply isn't true. The ungenerous interpretation is that she is pretending racism doesn't exist in order to justify gov't doing nothing about racism in e.g. health.

It is clearly also a political decision, and by staying out of this, this government is ALSO making a political decision, that having diverse, high quality content is not high on gov't agenda. Everybody knows getting money from news is hard, and it's a problem people tried to solve for a long time.

She kept mentioning it's a commercial decision and "feel for" the staffs but gov't can do nothing. ORLY? This is not JUST a commercial decision, this is a multinational saying it's not profitable to invest in local news, so they will drop it like a sack of hot shit with NO regard to local democracy.

I listened to Melissa Lee's interview on RNZ re: Newshub and my heart just sank. She NEVER mentioned that the health of our democracy is at stake if a FTA TV channel (whom btw also produced a lot of digital news content) shuts down because of lack of money. Not once.
