Oh, awesome! There's not much accordion in US pop music - Dennis DeYoung and Weird Al are the two examples at the front of my mind.

The Billboard charts mix three of my favorite things: music, data, and narrative. The music and data are obvious. As for narrative - each song is like a plotline, each artist a character. Sometimes the one-offs are more memorable than the main story arc. 😁

It does! It's just that the sparse production reminded me, unfavorably, of late-90s country.

But then, during a primary debate, Delaney said, "You've gotta put stuff on the table that Republicans will vote for." After 8 years of McConnell's power-first obstructionism, and 4 years of Trumpist demonization of Democrats, he thought this was a sensible perspective. The rot goes deep! 2/2

This is really it. It's not a policy thing! In 2020 I picked a random moderate candidate - Delaney - and read his policy platform. Don't remember specifics, but I walked away thinking - if even ten percent of this happens, given our legislative roadblocks, I'd be ecstatic. 1/

More remixes than covers, typical for a rap song. I’m not sure DJ Lonz Luv’s version is one – it shares no elements with the original other than a title – but it’s the best. Deep house that’s so abrasive it’s almost glitch. 13/

Cardi B pulls off a neat trick by borrowing Freak Nasty's flow and rhyme scheme for the preceding line, “And I just checked my accounts / Turns out I’m rich, I’m rich, I’m rich,” which primes the quote. 10/

A rap version of the dance-craze song, by way of Miami bass (probably New Orleans bounce) and Sir Mix-a-Lot. The recording is pretty lo-fi, and the song is too long, given that there’s not much to it. 2/

I donate to deep-red-state Democratic parties. I intentionally picked a "low ROI" task that I still think needs to be done. One vice chair sent a lovely note saying they appreciated it because it was tough for the party to get traction there. I have all the anxiety :) , but that felt good.

This entire thread. It's also why I'm hesitant about the notion of ROI in political action? It's downstream of this entire "we'll just do everything the right way" professional-class mindset that has utterly failed people (and I'm saying this as a professional!).

Do you recommend seats or orgs? I've been donating to red state Democratic parties because it seems like we need a broader institutional shoring-up than just "No, really, Amy McGrath will defeat Mitch McConnell" or whatever.
