Currently here in southeastern Virginia, it is 108 degrees heat index. If this isn't precisely the highest I've ever experienced, it's close. I am trying to imagine the much higher climate-crisis temperatures others, including vulnerable people (and other animals), cope with around the world. 🌍

This wildlife smuggling is infuriating- driven primarily by the pet trade? - and the infants' mothers are typically killed: Incubators have been brought in and zoo staff are working around the clock to try to keep alive 19 baby monkeys that have been smuggled into South Texas from Mexico. #primates

One thing you can do to help is to review books that are more than a year old. Post about them, even briefly. We’re all trapped in the cycle of social media promo but what really gets people interested are thoughtful and nuanced reviews and conversations about books, rather than just ratings.

Starting in April 2026, it will be illegal to keep monkeys, lemurs and other primates without a license in the UK, and already, sanctuaries are readying for the inevitable influx of animals. Just say NO altogether, to #primates as pets!
