Reasons people give for not prepping for hurricanes include: 1) Hurricane denial ("They don't come here anymore," "islands/sandbars will protect us") 2) Hurricane amnesia (forgetting the times they DID come here) 3) Hurricane fatigue ("we've been hit so many times I can't even respond anymore")

And yes, I said oil and gas EXPORTS. As in, the United States makes so much (as the world's top producer of both oil and natural gas) that it is selling a lot of it to other countries. Contrary to what some people you may have heard have been implying.

Beryl has already been the first Category 4 hurricane to form in the North Atlantic in June (in records dating back to 1851), and the earliest-ever Cat 5. Though now a tropical storm, it's expected to regain hurricane strength before hitting the Gulf Coast in the coming days.

#HurricaneBeryl forecasts turning more worrisome for Texas: Corpus Christi, a major hub for oil and gas exports, is right now in the center of the predicted swath of the fiercest winds. People in Galveston, Houston and Louisiana should keep alert too. www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/grap...

"Call the police, he’s on drugs," the foreman said of the disoriented laborer. But Gabriel Infante was suffering from heatstroke in Texas' 100-degree weather.

He died hours later, at age 24.

No federal rules existed to help him.

This article is about the political situation in Europe, but it should be noted that in the U.S. the Democrats got this message on climate policy decades ago. Here, their message is ALL ABOUT climate action equaling jobs, new tech and lower costs for consumers.

In truth, if reelected, Donald Trump would be unlikely to quit NATO outright. But that doesn’t mean the alliance would survive a second Trump term intact.

And this time, pulling out of Paris might just be the start: Conservatives are also drafting an executive order "that could remove the US from the entire UN framework underpinning global climate talks, a step that could do lasting damage to the effort to limit the Earth’s warming."

Trump haunts stalled global climate talks: Despite him not being president, "the specter of his return hung over two weeks of diplomatic negotiations in Bonn, where nearly 200 countries met for talks but got little accomplished," Zia Weise reports from Bonn.

Trump, of course, had his infamous series of "infrastructure weeks," proposed a $1.5T infrastructure bill (with basically no new federal money) that vanished in a GOP-led Congress, and held an infrastructure event that devolved into a defense of "many fine people on both sides."

I already see heads exploding about this poll result: Biden, whose signed a huge infrastructure law that's paying for projects right now, has only a 3-point edge over Trump on who “has done more to promote infrastructure improvements and job creation.”

Biden made his $1.6 trillion bet to transform America with four sweeping laws.

But less than 17% of the $1.1 trillion those laws provided for direct spending on climate, energy and infrastructure has been spent as of April, according to our analysis.

Joe Biden is betting that $1.6 trillion in climate and infrastructure money can transform America, create green jobs and outcompete China. But most of the funds remain unspent, six months before his rematch with Donald Trump.

Also important to note that much of this list is stuff Trump didn't do, couldn't do (because rulings like Dobbs hadn't happened yet, courts blocked him, or his top aides were either trying to soften his agenda or pursuing their own things) or didn't even attempt the first time.

Big picture: The U.S. has become an energy superpower in the past two decades — world's largest oil producer, biggest natural gas exporter, also ramping up with increasing supplies of wind and solar power. The standard political rhetoric surrounding energy hasn't quite caught up to that reality.

Other fun talking points in this debate: GOP: This 15-month freeze on new gas export permits (which will still allow export capacity to DOUBLE by 2028) is a "ban." Biden folks: No, it's not a ban. It's a pause while we study the impact on prices & climate change. Greens: We HOPE it will be a ban!
