Hubs and i just had a conversation about how the kids are wearing socks now. Apparently ankle socks are Boomer. My ND sensory apparatus gives zero fucks. Anything higher than ankle socks are a total nightmare unless I’m wearing boots. Fuck your fashion rules. Also, I guess we’re old now.

And yes from seed! Grows great in the field or in trays. Seeds are a bit more expensive, but worth it if you want consistent cut flowers. Wouldn't grow them for a landscape garden.

This is a hybrid seed bred for cut flower production. No seeds, no pollen, and only one flower per stem with long, straight stems, and blooms in 60-55 days. New type for me and I think I love them.

My SunFill Purple sunflowers are just opening! I love them! My timing is terrible! Will do better next year! About to see what I can pull together in a bouquet from my chaotic garden. It's definitely a learning curve. At least the garden prep will be dobe so I can actually get them in on time 🤦♀️🌱

I'm Exmo with my own religious trauma,so I feel you on it to some degree. I agree about it feeling unsafe and it'll often make me leave if I notice it. It seems to depend on who's managing the store, because I havent noticed it as much lately. We get a few things there OTR.

It is what it is. I try not to totally write off places like that without more cause than just religion, as strongly as I feel about it. Because I live in rural Indiana and I still need to be able to meet people where they are with *some* understanding to make positive changes in the community.

It’s such a bummer, since Rural King around here plays Christian music in the background, which I find off-putting. Like, I get it. You cater to a lot of conservatives, many of whom have drunk the Kool Aid. But farmers are all over the spectrum. It felt like a relatively neutral space until this.

The bee balm is coming in…I picked up a bunch of mixed plants at an outlet sale to add to the 4 types I’ve been trying to grow with mixed success. Pretty excited to see what they are…I guess I’m a Monarda grower now 🤷♀️. Also excited to see if this stuff really helps keep the deer and rabbits out.

And also, if you can spring it, I take like ASL Spring (formerly DrunkHands). It’s a monthly/annual sub. It’s taught by deaf people and CODAs, includes important cultural information, and also weekly conversation groups via video chat. The variety really helps me retain when I remember to do it.

I feel this...we paid for a year of ASL lessons from ASL Spring. I'm stuck at lesson 2 because ADHD and 2 small children. But I need to learn it to better communicate with my nonverbal son. Add the guilt hurdle to all the rest and my executive function is blocking me HARD on this.

I we have a good number of restaurant connections, so I'm looking at edible flowers. I'm also considering putting together seed packs for companion planting, because that's how I manage 95% of my pests and people are always interested in that.

I think I got 5 plants from the sprouts it threw out in the week I had that tuber before the bed was ready for it. And they're super vigorous. Is my first KA, and I'll admit I'm impressed. Will definitely be adding to them. Also pretty happy with the Karmas so far. I have Choc and Gold.

Yes, that's the goal. I'm just getting started and it's a big shift in strategy when you're looking at production. It's....a lot. But as much as you try to read and learn, I think it's super hard to understand it until you really get started, so we jumped in this spring.

So Warbonnet is on my wishlist, and I got KA Peppercorn this year. I'm kind of hoping it goes through something like this as it opens, even though the coloration is different. But even if it doesn't, I really like it and the plant has been super eager to grow. Can't ask for more.

I have lost five varieties this year that I very much wanted to grow, so I like the insurance policy. I also like just having a slight absurd number of them tucked in everywhere on our small farm. Between the dahlias and the wildlife field, people are starting to notice us.
