I think because people like to think that a) money they are drawing now is "theirs" because they paid into the system and b) money they are paying now will be available to them in the future to draw on. Reminding folks that's not how it works isn't necessarily popular

"Christian" is a very big tent. Christians disagree with each other about a LOT of things - theology, ethics, metaphysics, etc. Some Christians do terrible things in the name of their god. Some do beautiful things. This has been true as long as there have been Christians.

Today I went to a work-sponsored presentation on the 1st Amendment by a queer lawyer and then a library-sponsored talk by a queer romance writer. Happy Pride, y'all

MS Project and Smartsheet will calculate the day something will be done if you give it a start date and a task duration, but neither will work backwards from the due date to tell you when to start

I don't need time blocking though, I am talking about big project schedules. E.g. I tell the computer that the thing needs to launch on Date X and that it takes Y business days to build, the computer tells me to start building on Date Z.

I don't need an AI to summarize my meeting notes. I DO need a project scheduling tool where I can put in task durations and the final due date and it tells me when work needs to start.

I think the IDEA is that you made the decision absent the coercion of money, and so someone giving you a thank-you gift after doesn't taint that. But of course if you know/expect that you will receive said gratuity, that will impact your decision!

Yeah, basically. There are canonically folks who eschew replicators and similar tech.
Replicators also do require both power and raw materials, which obviously you have plenty of but there may be better methods for transforming them when you're not on a ship.

certainly plenty of people have used their jewelry to great effect this way, but that's a lot more portable than any kind of gold/silver bar (or even coins, honestly).

Spelling Bee, Wordle, Connections, Strands, Vertex, Crossword. I don't usually bother with the mini. Spelling Bee is more of an off and on throughout the day, the others are in the morning usually, and then the crossword usually in the evening, but sometimes I do it earlier.

Trying to correct emails coming to you that are clearly intended for someone else is such a fool's errand and it's so frustrating!

yeah, I'm an Elder Millennial married to a Gen Xer and we met at a Happy Hour and then were casual friends for a few years before we got together. I don't think any of our married friends met on an app, though I did date some people I met via online dating sites pre-app and pre-swipe interface

We definitely screened calls in the 90s - my Dad was a big believer that the phone was for our convenience, not other people's, and if it rang during dinner we just let the machine answer

yes, generally speaking the fine goes to the owner of the vehicle. If it's a company car or some other situation like that, it's up to the owner to recoup the costs from the driver. E.g. if you get a ticket (speeding, parking) in a rental car, the rental company will bill you for it

we got a bunch of automated tickets for our stolen car (yes, it was a Hyundai Sonata) and we were able to get them dismissed very easily by showing that it had been reported stolen not long before the timestamps on the tickets

I feel the same way and get annoyed when my various mapping tools tell me about a speed camera HOWEVER I am informed by people that the knowledge of the camera gets people to slow down, which is the goal, so I get it. (if you were driving the speed limit to start with you wouldn't need to, but...)

My mother is over 75 years old and I don't think she knows about Outkast but when Big Boi told everyone to put their hands in the air, she did it, arthritic shoulder and all.

My Mom mostly wants to watch baseball on TV in the evenings now that it's in season and I find myself glad because that means we can save up the short seasons of scripted television for the winter and we'll have a bigger backlog
