Growing up in Latin America, I remember a lot of tremors; I would hear the plates and glasses rattling before I felt them. But in 1965 there was a 5.9 quake that knocked me out of bed. It killed 125.

I got these plates in 2011, at the suggestion of my girlfriend Nora. I still have the plates (now on their 4th vehicle), and the girlfriend and I have been married for 12 1/2 years. I guess it means I’m more than just talk.

My favorite tidbit about the soundtrack is that the producers of Saturday Night Fever wanted to use Boz Scaggs’ Lowdown, but Columbia records turned them down, saving it for this movie instead. The SNF soundtrack went on to sell 40 million copies (so far). Boz could have owned his own island.

Just listened to the audiobook version (brilliantly narrated by Chiwetel Ejiofor) over two long drives. Totally captivating, intriguing and ultimately moving. While JS & Mr. N will always be my favorite Clarke, this one is a close second. Thanks for mentioning it.
