Look for something that says Quckcharge, that's a good sign of decent power. I like Ugreen or Baseus.

I saw a screening from the original prints (studio cinema in Poland that managed to nab reels in the 90s). Very used up film stock, but absolutely magic.

Think of how hard it is to appreciate complex literature in your second (or third or fourth) language. And no, reading in translation isn't always the answer because you need to recognise the English keywords.

Because knowing what the classics are about is an element of cultural literacy, even if your reading skills fail with originals. The British Council published simplified classics for ESL learners so that we don't stare uncomprehendingly as someone goes on about the green light or Birnam wood.

Also I tested them by dipping - the Wyvern is a semi flex! Medium to broad! I've never had a vintage pen before but I kept eyeballing flex nibs.

Look what I found in a relative's old things! (The marble lever pen is Wyvern, they stopped making them in the 50s, the black is Platignum but also lever filled so probably a contemporary.) Good thing there's a fountain pen repair shop near my work.

I generally avoid YA but the Hugo packet brought me two gems: Moniquill Blackgoose To Shape A Dragon's Breath (Native American girl in dragon training academy run by Norse colonizers) and P Djeli Clark's Abeni's Song (West African folklore and a girl's journey to find her stolen people).

"Fantasy is nearer to poetry, to mysticism, and to insanity than naturalistic fiction is. It is a wilderness, and those who go there should not feel too safe. And their guides, the writers of fantasy, should take their responsibilities seriously." - Ursula K. Le Guin

This really shows off nicely where you're going with the Retrogrades. I may finally brave international shipping...

Gah. Of course I meant Warrior's Apprentice. I have no brain today.

Oh, I agree. But it's not an entry point - you need to read at least Brothers in Arms Mirror Dance, Memory and Komarr to know the setup, and by then you might as well read the lot. And just realised I made a silly mistake - of course I meant Warrior's Apprentice, not Vor Game!

The trial, yes, but so much of Miles's bullshit is contractual legal bullshit, starting with the legalities of freeing the pilot. I particularly liked the part where he ends up writing an employee handbook.

Vor Game is more accessible (first second-generation novel with Miles, I actually started with it) and has a lot of legal wrangling with space mercenaries and a trial for treason!

I made this Pride flag using only NASA images and our team thought it would be cool to share on social (I work on the NASA heliophysics communications team), but it's getting all sorts of hate on the bird app and Fbook. Thought y'all might be more appreciative of it here. β˜ΊοΈπŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆπŸ’–

G, actually forming your own sentences (written or speaking - writing is much harder for me and I have a C2, B2, B1 and like three A2 languages).

I've been fighting Kobo for nearly 3 weeks trying to get the new @djangowexler.bsky.social book (highlight: customer service trying to convince me he's a pen name used by zombie Tom Clancy) and of course it gers fixed on the day I'm a poll watcher and can't get distracted or giggle in public.

Could be worse. Someone's new book got mixed up with a Tom Clancy novel three weeks ago and Kobo still hasn't sorted that one out.

Contigo is seriously leakproof, even in hold luggage on flights. One always needs extras while stuff's in the wash ;)

...Kobo customer service just tried to convince me that "Django Wexler" is the pseudonym of zombie Tom Clancy. I spent two hours trying to convince them you're a living person not writing about Jack Ryan but ran out of time in my timezone.

The entire video seems full of the kind of sports equipment that was used in Eastern Europe in the 70s. I wouldn't be surprised if it's shined up vintage gear from Korea or China to match the vintage styling - a racket like that goes for about $30 here.

I've loved everything Nghi Vo has published, but On The Fox Roads in particular hits like a good cathartic cry, everything I ever wanted and never knew. Cherry on top, the department store Christmas display done up with bottled Warsaw winter nights, back when Warsaw winter was all over snow.

Just saw the other report from Kindle UK - this is likewise the UK ebook from Orbit (Kobo Poland shop). I've reported it to Kobo as well and they promised to kick the publisher on their end.

It's the name of the burdock burs that de Mestral copied the mechanism from. Quite possibly named after the sound of removing said burs from sheep fleece and dog fur!

Giant bricks, but the concept is big too - one fictional family involved in the historical events through the centuries, their fortunes falling and rising every few generations. Somehow Saylor manages dozens of compelling characters who are believably each other's descendants in turn.

Stephen Saylor's Roma, Empire and Dominus are amazingly readable for something spanning the entire pre Christian history of Rome.

Could you ask your publisher to give Kobo a kick? I bought your book but the download has your cover on a Tom Clancy novel.

See giveaway below! This is an enormously fun historical fantasy set in the Rome of the Borgias, with great period flavor, complex magic and spirituality, and a refreshingly optimistic outlook. Also really fabulous clothes.

I keep being annoyed about low energy and poor executive function and then an actual doctor has to point out I'm still in recovery from major surgery and anaemia. Dear self, you lost a knife fight for six hours in January. It'll take a while.

Don't we have a glut of solar on sunny days? As long as the technology doesn't mind being turned on and off to match renewables production, we should be fine.

The 3D design of the premium version of the Wajima Recovery Support Fountain Pen "Phoenix" is now complete. The texture of the nashiji finish is well-expressed. This was made possible with the help of students from the Morioka College of Design. Thank you very much.
