it's held in the name of the original owner in perpetuity but their heirs can use it at any time. we can't consider it "unclaimed property" at any point which honestly fucking sucks

the problem is that there's no guarantee that somewhere along the line, some random heir won't show up and want to use the space, especially with how interested everyone is in their genealogy now
