Korean meat dog mom. Living our best life on Canada’s wet coast. Coffee and doughnut afficionado who cuts clothes apart and sews them back together again just for fun. Making the best of an imperfect life. Wouldn’t you?
This will be the first year that Parksville on Vancouver Island won’t have fireworks. Plenty of tourists will be unhappy. Plenty of dogs won’t.

If I thought he’d just go away, I’d encourage him to move on. Because his family has taken up residence in our crawl space, I’ve had to hire an exterminator to find their entrance, catch them all then bring in a crew to clean up the mess. Big bucks - no mercy.

Opened up my worm composter today and found a rat living in it. Not sure how he got in there but sure hope he enjoys his final meal of peanut butter before he gets the fast sendoff to the rodent pearly gates.

There they are, still in the rhododendron. Hope that mom comes and feeds them soon and that we get to see flying lessons in the morning.

Sigh. Yesterday I posted a photo of baby hummingbirds in the nest outside my front window. Today’s photo? Damn they grow up so fast. Hope they will be safe in this big wide world.

How true. So thrilled to have the opportunity to watch this just outside my living room window. Unlikely to be repeated.

Thank you! Mom will let me go right up to the nest to take photos. I booped the bigger one on the end of the beak a few days ago. Has to be the high point of the spring!

After a wild rainstorm last night, thrilled to find an undisturbed hummingbird nest in the rhododendron out my front window. There will be flying lessons soon since the nest is getting kinda snug.

Absolutely. After a $2000 trip to the doggie dentist, I now brush both dogs’ teeth every night. Cost me more than my human dentist. Poor old bichon now has 10 teeth less. Easier to brush though.

Load off my mind. ALL prescriptions this time. All spelled properly & with right dosages. For a luddite senior without a doctor, this was the best of all possible outcomes. Next time, she won’t be as freaked out beforehand.

Listening to my mother getting prescription refills from a doctor 3 times zones away through a conference call on her computer. Twice now, there have been problems making this happen but looks like this time, she’ll actually get the drugs she needs, without a family doctor. Phew!

Unreal. Glad I use a small community-based pharmacy right across the street from you-know-who. They even have cheaper dispensing fees.

Couldn’t figure out why my 11 yo Bichon was having trouble sleeping at night. Terrible gas all night. Get this - pretty sure it is the sorbitol in his doggie toothpaste. Skipped brushing his teeth last night & he slept WAY better. And so did I. Adding researcher & detective to my resume!

Poor little thing. Nothing more stressful in my life than a non-speaking loved one feeling poorly and needing a vet to guess which of hundreds of potential diagnoses to trot out first. Glad your vet works Sunday.

Up all night with my poor old dog. Have been racking my brains as to why his acid reflux only happens at night. Light bulb moment! I brush his teeth ONLY before we go to bed. Our dog toothpaste has sorbitol. This might well be the culprit. Now excuse me while I take a nice long nap.

This was the best sleep we’ve had since I adopted him. I now suspect he’s had acid reflux since he came from Korea. And to think that such an easy and cheap solution made all the difference. Of course, he’ll likely always hate the taste.

After a couple of weeks of poor sleep because of a dog with acid reflux, we have found a fast fix! A few slices of ginger root boiled in water for a few minutes and syringed into his mouth stops the acid reflux cold & he sleeps undisturbed for hours! I’m almost giddy with awakeness!

Yeah, even my 86 yo mother has been eyeing a colourful hat that she saw, although I’m not sure she would actually wear it, so their advertising is certainly effective.

I might try this only with duck instead as I was told when we adopted him that he might have a sensitivity to chicken. I’ve bought duck dog food and am hoping for the best. Thanks for the tip. I’m sure he will absolutely love this recipe.

No, I was only speaking from personal experience. Your dog may not adjust at the same speed that Lizzie did. I was told at adoption that she would likely be a timid dog for her whole life. This did not turn out to be the case. Wonderful things can happen when we don’t expect change at our pace.

Exactly! He flips, turns, groans, moans, licks his lips and pants endlessly. Thank goodness my mother can do Reiki which seems to help him settle down. Guess I’ll ask the vet for an antacid medicine as well unless I find something natural. Oatmeal & bananas with ginger perhaps? I feel your pain sir!

Up all night with a dog who has acid reflux. Vet gave him meds to heal any ulcers but it doesn’t stop the heartburn. You’ll all understand if I’m a bit punchy with the replies. That’s only while I can stay awake. Seeking natural reflux treatments if anyone knows any.

I think my rescue dog is developing diabetes. We’ll know on Sunday after a trip to the vet. Thrilled they have Sunday appointments for more urgent-type cases. Good thing I’m not squeamish about giving injections and that he’s not an excessively squirmy dog.

My dog Lizzie can hear a crawl space rat scurrying under the bathtub and now sits in the bathroom waiting for it to appear. Frustrated nose flute constant as she doesn’t understand why she can hear it but can’t see it.

Dancing down the aisles at the grocery store this morning to 10CC’s Dreadlock Holiday. Golly, I haven’t heard that tune in at least 10 years. Made my whole day! I’d forgotten how much I love 10CC, even now.

Me too. Saves me having to do 2 or 3 tours around Goosecrap Way later to make sure that Sweetie poops, otherwise we’re all getting up at 2am so he can. This way, a single trip later oughta do it. Especially if it’s pouring.

That doesn’t look pleasant at all. We had a mere sprinkling of rain on our walk, although weather folks are still predicting a good downpour for later.
