being in your mid-to-late thirties kinda sucks low key because you have none of the gravitas of being 40 and none of the youth of being under 35. it's the 12 of being 13-19 and the 20 of being 21-29
Literally told someone my age wrong last night and they laughed when I corrected myself:
“You don’t know how old you are?”
“Look, around 36 your brain just stops tracking it as a thing worth remembering.”
many here are overinterpreting "gravitas." I just mean when you're 40, especially as a woman, many are like "so you're 40 now, what's that LIKE??" no one cares that you are 39 which is basically the same in every way except numerically
I'm 54 & I suspect most superheroes are suspended in time as permanently 37. Actually, I think most action movies & romcoms have characters who are vaguely mid to late 30s. Obvi, there are exceptions but generally.
Also, I'd be super excited to look in the mirror and see my 37 year old face!
My life hack is that starting in my twenties I just added a year to my age. It softened the blow of the (pointless) culturally significant big/round numbers as I was already acclimated. At 46 I just said 50 bc to the youth there is no functional difference but the two. ymmv 🤷🏻♂️
