What do you mean *I* have to write the ending to this story that ties together all the emotional beats ... is it not enough that I set it all up???

Great news! I've been waiting for a while now (not particularly patiently, due to how much I think it will be exactly the sort of book I like) for Mad Sisters to be available in Canada

Thank you - I haven’t read any of these (and Susanna Clarke is a fave of mine too), excited to check them out! (The Book of Love was fantastic, btw! Particular shoutout to The Book of Maryanne, probably the best single chapter I’ve read in recent memory)

I feel this - I have three kids under 8, I'm definitely can't do Clarion or anything like that, & there are no cons within the radius of travel that I could plausibly do/afford/have the time for

Me, starting the first draft of a story: this concept/format can sustain, at most, 3500 words, before it will become tiresome to read First draft: 3900 words Second draft (just completed): 5500 words Me, to the story: 🧐 Time to chop chop chop, I guess

Yeah it's got that vibe where you can still go to the little corner store that's been there for decades and buy weird drinks and cheap candy, but there's also a super fancy luxury donut place just down the way, etc etc

I slipped on the carpet on the stairs coming down from the third floor in our house about a month ago and broke my fibula, and between the incident itself and the difficulty of getting up and down in a three storey house while in a cast/on crutches, a rancher is sure looking appealing

Lived in Van for most of my life (moved to the Island last year) and your description is pretty on-point with my experience (we lived in Mt Pleasant for 8 years and that neighbourhood & East Van/Commercial Drive are the best parts IMO)

one of the reasons the situation in Sudan hasn't been getting as much attention is that journalists haven't, by and large, been able to GET to Sudan to cover the ongoing civil war. so it's doubly important to pay attention when we get reporting about what's going on there.

Highly recommend this, a wonderful mix of the mythic and the personal with a wonderful main character! And just a note that if you (like me) have a low tolerance for horror, I found this unnerving in parts but for me it never crossed over the line into "too scary, must drop book and run" territory

As a teen I was into Vanyel's whole thing (some of it seems like real teenager catnip) but I think I'd feel differently if I read those books again today - I liked Firesong's emotional journey a lot

Yes I was pleased to see many more books! (And referring back to one of your previous posts in the thread, as a 90s teen Mercedes Lackey was my first introduction to gay characters in fantasy, always loved Firesong)

Picked this one up on your rec and really enjoying it so far - nicely done 90s fantasy is a very accurate description, it’s nice to read something with that tone/style knowing it’s queer

It's always too late to do anything about it!!! I didn't have these dreams as much when I was actually in school, it's only been in the years since I've been out, which is kind of funny

That's my recurring dream, too, although sometimes it's "haven't attended the class all year and now it's the test" rather than just not studying for it My other one is "can't get my clothes on fast enough and am going to be late for work/some important event" (usually the clothes are nylons)

I feel like this season has really dialled up the deliberately anachronistic wheel on costumes/hair/makeup! Which I will not complain about as it has given us Nicola Coughlan in some stunning looks

This whole situation is grim and fascinating. I've noticed a couple of shifts in the last two years. One is a downturn in some students' ability to craft coherent, logical sentences. When I talk to those students, they tell me they use grammar checkers. Without them, their work actually improves. +

I've only read one of the books (the one for Colin/Penelope) and this season has already fixed at least one thing about it that I didn't like, so it's not *impossible* that the shows will also make up for her lack of queer imagination!

It will never not stupefy me that there exist people who sincerely, with some combined action of their heads & hearts, think that the number of Palestinian dead just sort of stopped at 30K for months, or who doubt even that number, who don't know how bombs or building collapse or starvation work.
