I would like to think this was a profound insight, but it was just glaringly obvious

I suggest people, in general, are short-sighted, selfish, and either uninformed or deliberately ignorant

"First-term state Rep. Roger Wilder, R-Denham Springs, who sponsors the child labor measure and owns Smoothie King franchises across the Deep South, said people have been too critical of his bill."

All this nonsense post-2016 about how Trump's victory illustrated the dangers of the democracy when most people voted against him. Twice now. Meanwhile the holy institutions we're all supposed to be praying to and prostrating ourselves before have saved or elevated him at every opportunity.

The only people who've ever held Trump meaningfully accountable over the last nine years have been ordinary Americans and they've spent that entire time being lectured to and berated by elites who've failed to do anything.

Shouldn’t this is be a major topic of discussion on all major traditional media news outlets? An oligarch controlling one of the major social media platforms with billions of taxpayer funded contracts implicating national security is enamored with race science? Where is the non stop coverage?

Sheesh - so Florida and others are trying to say slavery wasn’t so bad and when progressives push back that means both sides are engaging in ideological warfare? Come on!

Thanks - that was what I was looking for. A case of “I’m pretty sure I know how this is supposed to work, but . . .”

Not excusing them at all, it is pretty weak and just shifts burdens around. But the majority opinion essentially seems to render a guilty verdict as just another step which is just patently ridiculous

Yes, that was my thought, Texas would be sued. But it seemed original post gave wide leeway to states and I was just wondering where it ended. Not at all happy with this decision even though many saw it coming

I agree - Biden should push for a progressive border bill and other stuff - no this Congress won’t pass it, but so what, use it to get a better Congress. I am still terrified of a Trump presidency and the idea of dealing with it by saying Biden should have done better is not comforting.

What would preclude Texas from keeping Biden off in retaliation? I saw the three as saying Trump was not proven insurrectionist, so … The bit about Congressional action seems worse to me as it seems to say even if court finds he is guilty of insurrection, you would still need Congress to act

But that would mean justices believe he is automatically DQ’d which is not what they are saying. SCOTUS says only federal law can kick him off (presumably by simple majority) based on their reading of article 5. But if that is the case why does 3 give the removal of the “disability” part at 2/3s?

Agreed - this just seems to be a blatant conflict of interest. Then again, a lot of stuff that seems pretty obvious is getting ignored these days

The idea that Haley will stay in because Trump may be convicted of something is some kind of wishful thinking. He has already been found guilty of fraud, sexual assault, and defamation and nothing changed. Any convictions will be seen as illegitimate by the cult. Republican enlightenment is a myth

How, exactly, is it difficult? He won’t bring it forward. He has no shame or morals, he is Trump’s lackey full stop
