It seems like bad politics at the very least. Polling shows there is no enthusiasm for Labour - everyone just wants the Tories gone and Starmer is the best vehicle. Post-election he *really* needs to build a coalition to keep going. Alienating allies will damage his project.
I guess we see what the next couple of years brings. Rachel Reeves is going to be in a powerful position and they must start to grow and turn things around otherwise she fails.
Starmer is storing up trouble re his EU stance. Polls have shown that progressively there is support for rejoining or at least much closer ties with the EU.
Labour have been information light on how they will turn around the economy. No mention of rejoining the single market for example. 🤷🏼♂️
