A lot of disabled people can only exist socially online. That's missing in the lot of "touch grass discourse." Disabled people are often living physically limited from leaving their homes, & also commonly in social exile & abandonment that means the internet is the human community sustaining them.
I remember getting so angry when all the op eds about how terrible lockdown was after about two weeks, because I'd already been living like that for years.
My first thought on hearing about the proposed TikTok ban is that a lot of folks still think of social media platforms as unnecessary fluff, failing to recognize how absolutely essential it is for a great number of people.
For those who try and work somehow, the CloutChase of In Person conferences deliberately regresses inclusion of disabled people in common core areas, such as poetry or other arts.
Itβs shameful.
Except that the Irl promo peep have no shame, are ableist and a bit homocidal
Yea but sites like this ain't great for socializing. My wife is disabled and spends most her week indoors (I along with her) and we engage in healthy online socializing, not doomposting or worrying about trivial shit like the latest trending drama. We know when to 'log off' and do something better.
