I was torn as to if I should watch the new shogun as I loved the original so much as a child. I did watch it. It was ok but I still felt dirty.

Apparently they managed to smooth over a lot of the flaws of the source text, but I will still maintain that there's only so much fixing you can do for a work that is fundamentally, irredeemably flawed from the start.
