I remember when I worked for Geoffrey Palmer there was a huge hoo ha about him taking the date for Te Tiriti claims back from 1975 to 1840, and the subsequent negotiations for a Māori Fisheries agreement (with Shane Jones as his advisor!). The racists were out in full force.

I think he’s had his palm greased - he likes playing “the man “ with mining prospectors - it seems to me like a new wave of colonialism- selling prospecting rights. but maybe if you sit around private clubs & yachts smoking cigars having your ego stroked - you think its your right
