I left after Labour got trashed in the 1990 elections. Went to work for Greenpeace international in London, and ended up going to all the negotiations in leadup to the climate convention being agreed. Didn't go to Rio, weirdly.

"Keep Calm & Carry On essentially amounted to āI know youāre about to die, but thereās no need to make a scene.
But if Britain can extricate itself from the party whose unremitting cruelty has stained the last decade and a half of British life,ā he concluded, āthat does deserve to be marked.ā

I was his "environment press secretary" - the RMA, ozone depletion, his climate stuff. I got to travel to international climate meetings way back in the late 80's. I was the only press secy remaining after Palmer got rolled as he was allowed to keep that portfolio.
Those last six weeks were weird.

Yeah I remember Patricia Herbert calling from Beehive saying something was going down.
No live tv... nothing live, except her calls and the ticker tape from NZPA...

Consent by brute force?
Wannabe seabed miners tell The Listener they're threatening to sue the government if they don't get fast-track consent to trash the ocean
Srsly, after 3 courts threw out the consent? Fat chance
But the belligerence is real
Big fat red flags here for the government š©š©š©

blog from me:
āIf you have to destroy the South Taranaki Bight, home to pygmy blue whales and kororÄ, to get a mineral like vanadium for ācritical mineralsāĀ then youāre doing it wrong. Trashing the environment to tackle the climate crisis is not a solution.ā
