Imagine if an inexplicably wealthy 11 year old boy had just learned to draw the “cool S” and then assembled a team of engineers and told them “you have an essentially unlimited budget to make this into a car somehow.”
That’s the feeling you get when you first spot a Cybertruck in the wild.

I mean, they can’t very well come out and say “our candidate has a big-boy crush on tariffs because he can set them without having to deal with Congress and also he doesn’t believe they get passed on to consumers because he managed to get a degree from Wharton without learning how trade works.”

“Disagree as much as you like about the issues, but prejudice, bullying, name-calling, threats of violence and obvious lies are forbidden” are excellent ground rules for a debate in theory but what to do if prejudice, bullying, name-calling, threats of violence and obvious lies are a party platform?

I always kind of thought it would be *easier* to launch a viable competitor to Omaha Steaks than it would be to transform the US into a functional autocracy but I guess I have a lot to learn about politics and/or business

I haven’t tried the dialect map recently but I did when it came out and it had my top three results as Chicago, Rockford and Aurora, despite the fact that when I did it I had been living in MA for the last decade, so well done

DeSantis’s support was primarily normies who hoped that a record of Trump sycophancy and a few cruel stunts would trick the MAGA guys into voting for a Republican with suits that fit and a clear understanding of object permanence and table manners

Every bit of daily newspaper expert commentary on political news boils down to “this is how I reckon that someone who does not know and barely cares about the substance of anything is reacting to this.” I mean, I’m not so Pollyannish as to think that Biden’s performance was good, but sheesh
