Democrats and leftists have not made winning elections a priority since Nov. 2008.

Where were they last Summer when these conversations needed to be had in earnest - when something could be done about the campaign. They let this folly go beyond the primaries THEN say, “hold on … Biden’s 81??”

Either Biden or Trump will be sworn into office on January 20,2025. Because the rules of the Constitution and present political realities are what they are, the default candidate is Trump. Even Sanders endorsed Biden.

When people blame “the Democrats,” who are they really blaming? Biden was the nominee in ‘20 because he got the most votes. He’s the nominee now because no one ran against him. “The Democrats” are anyone eligible or possibly eligible to vote.

A vote for Biden/Harris is not a vote for the perfect (doesn’t exist) or even the ideal, but it is a vote for preserving the chance for good candidates to win in ‘24 and to win races with better candidates in ‘26 and beyond.

Independent is how he runs. Caucus refers to leadership once elected. Sanders can choose R, D or remain I. With R or D he gets a say in leadership. Committee assignments come from leadership. If he remains outside the caucus he has no committee access.

I’m not the one that suggested Sanders had options other than the Democrats. I’m happy Manchin is a D. The problem isn’t that Manchin wins in WV; it’s that Ds can’t win in WI, OH, FL, NC and so on.

Manchin has always run as a Democrat. He has never been an Independent. The caucus is mostly about leadership; I cannot see Sanders choosing McConnell over Schumer or giving up his committee spots to go it alone for … what.

Conservatives consider “Jurists who preach fidelity to the Constitution … making decisions that flatly contradict our founding document’s text and ideals” to be a a feature, not a bug. That’s what genteel, 20th Century liberals do not understand.

Having the votes is the result. I’m asking about the steps to go where we are to where we need to be. We cannot wish 290 progressive House members or 67 progressive Senators into office.

I do not see the point in ceding a winnable election to right wing authoritarians hellbent on destroying the rule of law then after the fact taking up arms against them.

The EC requires 2/3 of both Houses. That’s 67 Sens, 290 Reps. To get the proposed Amendment to the States for 3/4ths to ratify. That’s 38 States. What’s the strategy to get those votes in hand? How do we get from here to there?

Where were these calls and concerns last summer when something could be done about the re-election campaign. The skills that make Biden a good president are not at all the same as those that would make him a good candidate if he possessed them.

West Virginia nominated a leftist for Senate in 2020. She got 27% of the vote. What are the chances the Democrats wins this open seat race in 2024? Manchin is the reason Democrats hold the majority and Biden gets any judges confirmed.

The Democratic leadership in this century has included 20th century politicians - Clinton, Pelosi, Reid, Schumer, Biden, Ginsberg all were products of a more gentile, pre-24/7 news cycle time. We get the politicians and leadership we vote for - or others vote for if you’re on the sidelines.

Where was Rep. Doggett LAST summer when something practical could be done about a Biden re-election bid? It’s not like anything that happened in the debate relating to Biden was a surprise or that it’s a surprise Biden is now an octogenarian. At this late day, there is no Plan B.

The sole and exclusive power to define was is or is not “high crimes or misdemeanors” is expressly granted to the House for impeachment purposes. Not that this will stop this activist Court from saying otherwise, but it at least should be said for now.

The alternative to Manchin is Caputo, not Swearengin, who got <30%. I’ll take Manchin and by extension, a Democratic majority. Democrats had 60 Senators in 2009. The problem isn’t Manchin, it’s that Manchin is the 50th.

I don’t think Liberals have done much winning. For example, Ds had the Senate, but when it’s Sinema and Manchin getting you over the line, are Liberals really winning? If your winning vote is a D from WV, what do you really have?

You have to start somewhere. Not making winning elections a priority has gotten us here. Maybe if we start now we can reverse the present dystopian direction. We will not get there overnight or in one election cycle. Like for Republicans, the changes we need to make happen when we win elections.

It would have been better to have had an open, competitive primary instead of a coronation. Sometimes I wonder what the Supreme Court & lower courts would have looked like after 4 years of a President Webb’s nominations.

Congress cannot get its act together but Democrats and anyone else who wants to see Congress get its act together can vote to accomplish that goal. Unfortunately, more and more people look to politics for entertainment these days, and dysfunction is more entertaining that boring good government.

The problem Biden/Harris have, aside from their own instinct to pander to special interests and total indifference to 21st Century political communication strategies, is that the threat to our Republic has arisen during a decade and a half period when Ds & the left de-prioritized winning elections.

On June 10, 1944, Joe Nuxhall made his Major League debut, pitching for the Cincinnati Reds. Nuxhall was 15 years, 10 mos. and 11 days old at the time. He retired 2 batters and allowed 5 runs, all earned, in an 18-0 Cincy loss. Nuxhall’s next MLB appearance came almost 8 full years later, in 1952.
