*If* you can afford bond. I was on a jury where the defendant sat in jail for 6 months awaiting trial, only for the state to produce experts that testified that: The fingerprints and footprints found DID NOT match those of the defendant. Police testified no witnesses saw the suspect at the scene.

I was a public defender for 25 years and still hate every single time I had a client with a winnable case who we couldn't get out of jail and so they pleaded out. It's the client's call and the lawyer's not the one sitting in jail. But it sucks, sucks, sucks. It shouldn't work that way.
