I was assuming the secret service person under discussion was on Trump’s detail. I don’t want anyone laying a finger on Joe, regardless of how well he’s doing, but Trump is solidly in the “Would you kill baby Hitler?” zone except I’d assume Hitler was as cute a baby as any.

I'm glad you mention the "baby Hitler paradox"; it prompts a thought I'm ashamed I never thought before. If time travel lets us reach baby Adolf before the trauma of his father's beatings, his brother Edmund's death & WWI service—is infanticide the ONLY way to save millions by altering his destiny?

I also think that it’s not at all certain Harris could overcome the misogyny & racism that permeates everything in this country to be able to pull off a November victory, even if she’d been the incumbent for a few months. Someone assassinates Biden & we still get Trump? No thanks
