I never thought about it, but the song "Let's fly away" is basically about a guy trying to pick up a woman by offering to fly her to a bar in Bombay.

I think I like your version better because it's clearer it's ironic. Some may read the original and think it means to get people to church and make them angels.

I'm still plenty worried. It seems like some folks have figured out to game the system to unbalance the system and it's getting easier for them. :-(

Well wasn't the quote was ironic... or sarcastic... or both? Someone should have warned him back then not all people in the future would get his sense of humor.

Isn't this quote a good example of a statement that contains both irony and sarcasm? "Angels govern men" and "controls are not necessary" could be considered ironic but then the whole thing could be considered sarcasm maybe?

Maybe I'm suffering from lowered expectations, but it makes me feel good when I craft a tweet or email or message and someone actually reads all of it. I think nowadays skill is involved in writing even one sentence for someone else to read. It shouldn't be that way, but there it is.

I wonder how long of a walk that would be if you kept following those tracks. Are there any old railroad track hiking trails out there like they've made old canals on the east coast into trails?

Would the same experiment in a place that was as far as possible from living under a two-party system, say North Korea, find that the average repetition approaches a different number?

Ran out of room. Here's the link.
People believe repeated information more than new information and this explains how they've done the painstaking research to prove it.

This could take a while. Another interesting paper that looks at other papers also points out it can be hard to compare the data from different studies, even beyond varying scales like 0-7, 0-10, or -50/+50. What type of & how questions were asked makes it hard to see the mean has changed over time.

Has that changed in the last few centuries? Have we so mindf**ked ourselves with advertising and propaganda that people are split down the middle, a "Belief Barrier" where it doesn't matter what the information is, half of people will never believe it? Maybe call it "Catch 50/50"

I need to read more about repetition converging on half of people believing anything. Was it something about the questions they chose, or is it some universal or localized truth that only half of people might believe anything someone else says?

PSA: please do pay attention to security when it comes to python. There are ways to run it safely and it's important b/c some useful libraries have vulnerabilities, even malware. It's worth the extra time to make sure it's safe.

I'm so surprised by this, living somewhere that did have a lot of small farms and so that store was where everyone got lots of non-chicken related items. "Professional farmers originally made up 90% of Tractor Supply’s clientele; today that figure is 10%." b/c there are so many fewer farmers :-/

They have some great Raspberry Pi kits and it's the most common language used for that I think. Knowing python, you could do everything from organizing your files & photos to automating your house to running AI tools to writing a web application or making images from public space telescope data.

Turn off autocorrect and autosuggest and remove that source of angst from your life. As a bonus it doesn't take long to re-learn how to spell, and it's a trip down memory lane having to remember things like "i before e except after c but only on days ending in y".

You might want to try python as well as R to see if you favor one or the other. Both of them have great ways to handle Excels and you can even pick up things like formulas or color coding, so it's not as if you're throwing away the spreadsheets as much as learning how to leverage them more.

So if this uses the Likert scale (had to look it up) one profound thing to notice is that line seems to approaching 5/10. It's as if for any question, no matter what, half of people might believe and half of people never will. 50/50 agree/disagree sound familiar?

You'll either believe something or you won't, but if you might it only takes a few repetitions to make it one of your truths.
If you haven't read "The effects of repetition frequency on the illusory truth effect" it is a real trip.

It's disturbing if you ever look at how the hate propagates, how all it takes is a clever turn of phrase and some maintenance to make it spread. It's like it gets uploaded in some people's brains as baseline truth, repetition logarithmically related to whether it is believed.
